Jazz, Blues and Austin Church

Bookmark and Share
Sybil sits down with Austin Church, a legend in the music industry, who started out scratching songs while working  in a gas station in the 1970s, and kept rolling until he was co-writing songs with Jimmy Buffet, and didn't stop there.
Austin The Church Man divines us on his “Cosmic Butter” and his innovative approach to music, people and the passion of the industry. His latest CD, Propitious Melange, is phenomenal, and Sybil introduces us to it with “The King Of Cool” (The Church Man’s song about Chet Baker) and then keeps us hungering with some of Austin’s old tunes as well as some of his new ones before he has to hurry out the door to his next gig. We round out the hour with Big Maybelle, Dr John and a native New Orleanian and Bluesman, Joe Survival Caruso.

Nina Simone

In honor of a great musician whose birthday just passed (2/21/33) and whose passion for civil rights never faded, I decided to do a video blog of this great performer. Words simply fail to express the emotion that her music encompassed. For her, and in honor of Black History Month, may I humbly present Nina Simone.

Every once in a while you come across something to share that's beyond just plugging into your social media site or your favorites bar. It's usually something that stops you cold and makes you pause to listen; something that speaks inside of you on a deeper level than all the other noise in your daily routine. I came across one such today that did just and wanted to share it with you. I think I'll be doing this somewhat regularly  as I come across little gems like this and then let you decide whether or not the noise can wait for just a moment longer.

This is Nunzio Rotondo in the video below and you can find a great blog post about his life and music here, which I just happened to stumble on myself.
