Music Influences- Blues
UPDATE: A couple of people asked me to place in some commentary about why these people influenced me, so as not to detract from the music I've added a line with each one.
I want to share with you just some of the major musical influences in my own life and career. We'll start with the blues. In another post we'll work through jazz and last (but definitely not least) we'll explore Soul music. Let me know what you think, what your favorites are and whose music moved you the most. And, once again, we'll let the music speak for itself.

Billie Holiday - Fine and Mellow (1957)
You can hear her life through her song in her sorrowful heartfelt expressions.
DINAH WASHINGTON Newport Jazz Fest 1958- All Of Me
Her distinctive voice goes to your ears and takes a short cut to your heart.
Nina Simone - House Of The Rising Sun
Lots of soul and emotion and intellect is what I like about her.LaVern Baker - Substitute 1958
A woman layin down tracks back then had to be made of steel. A great voice that didn't need Jim Dandy to the rescue.Elvis Presley - Heartbreak Hotel 56
As an entertainer he is a pleasure to watch, stayed popular through changing musical tastes and graced many genres.
Little Richard, Tutti Frutti 1956
As we say in New Orleans if less is more, imagine how much MORE would be.
James Booker performing in France 1978
I was a personal friend and witness to his extraordinary genius.
Maria Muldaur in the Jug Band of 1966
Under-appreciated, the quintessential blues singer that's been there, it's all in her voice.
Johnnie Taylor - Stormy Monday Blues LIVE African American Blues Classic
Hit maker with lyric's for the lady taker, he lived the life.
Pearl Bailey - "That's Life" on The Ed Sullivan Show 1968
If you don't care for a particular tune, listen to Pearl Bailey sing it. A true master of her craft, spicing up lyric with humorous patter, she knew how to dress up a song.
